Change Your Thoughts And You Really Can Change Your World…

A note to anyone who suffers from mental illness or depression…

I’m not shy to say I have suffered from depression, and to let you all know that I’ve been diagnosed with depression and anxiety since I was quite little. In fact, I think depression is quite common…it’s just sad there’s this kind of stigma attached to depression and mental illness, it’s almost like society seems to think that you are not ‘normal’ – some people from my experience used to say to me, “depression is just your way out of not doing things, and stop trying to take the easy way out” – instead of showing a little empathy and understanding my circumstance.

Depression and mental illness can be a very very dark and lonely place..and yes, it may be hard for someone that never has experienced depression to understand what you are going through..but the thing is, and I mean this in the nicest possible way – mental illness and depression is your problem, and therefore only YOU can fix it by helping yourself, and until you realise that it’s only you that really can fix you, then you will most likely continue down the same old lonely path with your mental illness or depression.

It’s your thoughts that ultimately control your actions…you would have probably heard it said it a million times, that your thoughts become things, and what you think, you become. – It’s true…our thoughts are extremely powerful, they have the power to really make or break us, because whatever thoughts we have we tend to manifest upon subconsciously and therefore they can result in our moods either being good or bad, happy or sad.

What has really helped me is finding myself a new hobby. – Sometimes all it takes to lift you out of a bad mood is to refocus you attention to something you enjoy. So instead of sitting around thinking “why me?”, and focusing your attention on how you are feeling, think what it is that you enjoy…perhaps you feel alone, and if you do,why not talk to someone about it? You see, that is the magic of social media – it gives us all the ability to reach out to people right across the world..and believe me, there’s a heap of people out there, with some sort of mental illness or depression that are more than willing to reach out and help you! Jump onto Google+ and join a Mental health community, and you can see just for yourself that you really aren’t alone with what you are going through, it might be just the support you need to get you through what ever it is that you are going through.

Be easy on yourself though, I think having depression you can be so used to beating yourself up with your own thoughts that it can be almost habit and so easy to fall back into the trap of sitting back and not getting things done because of your ‘old way’ of thinking. – Now, I have called it your ‘old way’ of thinking, because if you really want to beat this thing, and become a stronger, happier you..then your ‘old way’ of thinking simply has to go. Just learn to be mindful of your thoughts…are they good or bad? What purpose are they serving you?

Learn to be ok with failure. – I used to get so uptight about failing that I never ended up finishing things. I would purchase a course, and sometimes not even get started with it, because I was afraid of failing..but in actual fact, that is just how we all learn. No one has ever been successful from not trying and not making any mistakes…and if success for you is simply just finding happiness, and what makes you really shine…then keep trying new and different things until you do find the one thing that really makes your heart kinda sing! We all are talented in one way or another..for me I have found solitude in writing, and connecting with people through social media…perhaps it might be the same for you? Give it a go…just allow yourself to shine in whatever it is that makes you glow!

….So there you have it…you really CAN change your thoughts..and you really do have the power to change your world. It all starts with YOU!! – So go out and shine that magic you have within you!! xx 🙂

Get Rid of Dreaded Monday-itis For GOOD!!

You know the feeling….the feeling that it’s the start of the new week, and you feel like you have so much to do, and so little time to get it all done, and It sucks to say the least!!

Mondays don’t need to be hated! It’s a start of a brand new week, and can give you the opportunity to start a fresh new week if you wish. Mind you, you can start a fresh new week any day, but personally I like to start a fresh new week on a Monday. I am a huge lover of doing what you love and loving what you do, and if your heart’s not 100% on the job, you really need to reconsider, it.  I also believe in being whole in all you do, putting all your heart and soul into your work, and truly loving what you do, is a key ingredient to waking up bright and happy and eager to get to work, no matter what day it is.

Gratitude is an amazing thing!….and learning to really truly appreciate life is the magic ingredient to loving life  – loving each and every moment, and each and every day you wake up…being truly 100% happy to be alive, and eager to start each brand new day.

And it’s through our own very thoughts, actions and our energies that we place out to the world that always comes back to us, just like the rule of karma – what you give is what you get, and you most likely would have heard of the saying, “Your thoughts become things.” – it’s true!

So, if you want to be successful or happy in whatever you do, you will be…you simply just make a conscious decision to do so, most of the time without even realizing…and you just are!  – Think about it….if something ticks you off, do you  usually let it eat you apart, and make you angry…or do you stay calm and let the situation pass, knowing that the situation will pass?

Ever since really taking hold of the concepts and teachings of “The Secret” myself, my entire outlook on life itself has completely changed. Only just a few short months ago, I was feeling like I was living in complete darkness, with no one around me, and no life or happiness. Being diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression since I was only 12, and I am now living a life full of love, I am very happy to say I feel that I am cured…the days of the complete emptiness and darkness have gone, and I honestly feel that I have so much to look forward to in life!

Can Music Have The Power To Heal?

….That song will always be one of my favourites, it just ooozes so much happiness, and you can’t help but tap your feet, whistle, and sing along…it just about instantly puts a smile on your face, the moment you start singing to it!

I just love love love LOVE music!! So much goodness comes from listening to your favourite tunes.  I am very blessed to have to the opportunity to listen to my favourite music cranked up loud all day long in my happy little office space, and Music for me, is my motivator and it not only makes me feel totally awesome…but makes me feel so happy to be alive. It takes away my emptiness and fills it with pure joy, and as I’m writing this post, I’m listening to one of my newest albums – Sky Radio Zomer Top 101 Hits 2012  – it’s jam packed with great songs, a lot of them sound Latin, but I think that there’s something kinda sexy about Latin music…it makes you just wanna groove!

Anyway I wanted to ask the question, Can music really have the power to heal?

Well I think so, to a certain degree at least. As a sufferer of depression since I was very young, and feeling very isolated, lonely and confused, always wondering why I had no friends, I always managed to be able to cheer myself up with music, no matter how crappy and unhappy I felt, I would play my favourite music all day long if I could, and dance away to it. I remember getting my very first job and saving every single penny to by my own stereo…which looking back on it, I am forever grateful to my gorgeous parents for putting up me listening to my favourite music, which was pretty much anything that put me in a good mood, and made me wanna dance! – Pitty for them, they weren’t into the same sort of music, but bless their sweet hearts, they put up with it!

I think music has the ability to take you to your own happy place…what do you think, and do you think it has the power to heal?

Positive Thinking Vs Negative Thinking – Which Road Do YOU Take?

Are you an optimist, and always looking on the brighter side of life? or are you a pessimist, always down in the dumps, and seeing the negative side of things?

With so much negativity in the news and in the world around us, it is so easy to take life for granted and forget how lucky each of us are to have the gift of life, and for the lessons it has taught us. I believe life is a precious gift, we only get one chance at living it here on earth, so we may as well live it up, and enjoy the ride!

I very much dis-like the word colour, when referring to race…we can’t help the skin we are born in, therefore I believe we are all equal, no matter what our skin colour is. Yes, we all might have differences in beliefs and religions, but that’s just what makes us all unique. – If only each and all of us woke up to that fact, and started a journey of peace and positivity, this world could really be a better place….wishful thinking, huh!!

Just to remind you of the benefits of positive thinking, I have listed a few I could think of, versus the unhealthy benefits of negative thinking, just to give you a gentle nudge on the shoulder, and get your mind ticking…..

Benefits of Positive Thinking-

Health is improved, and you feel great

You enjoy life to the fullest

Your surrounded by loved ones

You see the good in everything!

You glow with happiness

You enjoy your own time

You have great relationships with your friends and family

Life is a breeze

You lift others up with your affection and praise

You always see the good in every situation, no matter how bad it may be

……I could go on and on, but you should get my drift

The Health Risks of Negative Thinking –

You constantly worry about everything

You dis-like life

You feel like you have the world on your shoulders

You feel like you have no real friends or family that love you

You are quick to judge others and are easily angered or annoyed

You may suffer from depression and or anxiety

You are constantly sick

Now, if you are a bit of a negative thinker…you can change your life around, and start living a happier, and healthier life, it all starts with simply counting your blessings, thinking how truly grateful you are for the lessons you have learnt and for what life has given you. Have a look around you…do you have a roof over your head? Do you have a comfy bed to sleep in at night? Do you have a comfy lounge to relax in? Do you always manage to put food on the table for the family? Do you have a tv to watch at night, after a hard day’s work? Do you have a computer, a laptop or mobile phone? – These are just a few of the things you most likely have, and so easily can be taken for granted, now just think of how grateful you are for all that you have…..can you imagine life with out any of them?

As bad as you might feel and unhappy with life, right at this very moment, just like the saying goes, ‘Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain! ‘ – when you learn to see the good of each and every moment, you will start to truly enjoy life and the struggles it brings, seeing them as lessons to be learnt rather than a struggle!

Be a Magnet of Gratitude!

I just love this quote! it pretty much sums up gratitude in nut shell! No matter where you are in life right now, at this very moment, if you aren’t feeling the magic of gratitude, stop for just a moment, and take the moment to think what it is in your life right now, that is stopping you from feeling happy. Is it your current job? is it your relationships? is it that you feel like you don’t have enough money?  – What ever it is, you CAN change it! and it’s really quite simple…just start practicing feeling grateful for every single moment, situation and thing in your life right now, no matter how bad you feel about the situation, turn it around, be thankful and grateful for what it’s taught you and the lessons you’ve learnt.

The power of gratitude is incredible…once you learn to practice it every single moment, you will start to wonder why you never did before!

Image for one moment…having every single thing you could ever want…the dream home, the dream car, taking the family on countless trips away to your favourite location, being completely in control of your life!  – You can have it all! it’s the law of gratitude, – what you give out, you receive, and it’s been proven time and time again, by so many famous people. There’s even countless books on gratitude, – my favourite is “The Magic” written by Rhonda Byrne, the same author of  the very popular book, “The Secret.”

It all just starts with you….how you see the world, and those around you will reflect upon your attitude and in your life. You’ve heard it said, ‘life is like a mirror, when you smile at it, it smiles back at you’ – it’s true!
